Moissanite never clouds, fades, or loses its fire — but the metal it sits in needs a little love. Here's how to keep your pieces hitting like day one.

Cleaning your moissanite

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap, and a soft toothbrush. Gently scrub around the stones and settings, rinse, and pat dry with a soft cloth. Do this every few weeks — skin oils and products are what dull the sparkle, not the stone itself.

Protect the metal

• Take it off before: pools and hot tubs (chlorine attacks metal and plating), the gym (sweat is corrosive), showering, and applying cologne, lotion, or sunscreen.
• Last on, first off: put jewelry on after getting ready, take it off first when you're done.
• Solid gold and silver: polish with a jewelry cloth to bring back shine. Silver may tarnish naturally — a polishing cloth fixes it in seconds.
• Plated and vermeil pieces: extra sensitive to chemicals and abrasion. Skip ultrasonic cleaners and harsh polishing — stick to the soap-and-water method.

Storage

Store pieces separately in soft pouches or a lined box. Moissanite is harder than almost everything else you own — which means it can scratch your other jewelry if they're tossed in a drawer together. Keep chains clasped to avoid tangling.

Quick don'ts

• Don't sleep in chains or bracelets — stress on links and clasps causes breaks.
• Don't use toothpaste, baking soda, or 'hack' cleaners — they're abrasive.
• Don't grab an ultrasonic cleaner for plated pieces.
